Does technology upgrade human life? My opinion.

What is humanity for you? Which technologies are we talking about?

Technology has been a hotly debated topic since the fourth industrial revolution. Many people perceive new technological advances as beneficial to humanity. But when talking about humanity, they always refer to the Western, American or Asian model of society, forgetting that humanity is made up of a diversity of cultures and countries that are not necessarily benefiting from technological advances.

In the text by George Foster (2012), different cases of failed technologies are analyzed. It is very easy to take different cultures out of the discourse to pretend that technology helps all humans on the planet, when in fact, whether it is the poorest that are most impacted by data theft, or cultures other than Western ones that do not see a major impact on their way of life when confronted with new technologies.

With that in mind, technology is far from helping all of humanity, because not even half of humanity will have contact with the technologies that are beneficial. Their lifestyles and social class are factors that keep them away from accessing the advances of humanity for their own well-being. In any case, the advances produced by a society are part of the intellectual baggage of humanity. And yes, it is true that we have brought new technologies that lengthen our life expectancy and often improve the conditions of life. But we have to make an effort to regulate and counterbalance the negative effects of technology on human life and the environment.

Self-assessment:

It feels good to create a blog and posting articles. I felt like journalist and actually enjoyed this task. It was hard for me to compress everything I wanted to write but it's okay, I tried.

  1. Danbi Kim) I agree with you that technology has made human life better, but that doesn't apply to all of humanity. Achieving equality in technology is also a topic for us to think about.
